5 reasons why you should absolutely visit Nottingham
pretty street of Nottingham

One of my goals for 2018 was to travel the UK more: After almost three years wandering inside our beautiful capital, it was more than time to start exploring all the other beautiful cities that the country has to offer. In January, my travel plans took me to Nottingham and I completely felt in love with the atmosphere of this lovely city. So here is my 5 reasons why you absolutely need to book a ticket to Nottingham soon!

coffee shop nottingham

The first thing that really caught my attention when I visited Nottingham was the number of barbers, hipster clothing retailers and independent coffee shops that can be found all around the city. Compared to Oxford, Bath or Bristol which have kept a very traditional British atmosphere, Nottingham has developed a very hipstery vibe that will definitely pleased the vintage fans out there. Here is a little list of all the places you might want to see while visiting!

The hipster shop

200 degrees coffee

Outpost Coffee Roasters

Diallingln Coffee Shop

The Speciality Coffee Shop

vintage shop Nottingham

If there is one place that I would definitely recommend to shop for vintage and second hand clothes, it would have to be Nottingham. I was so surprised to see so many nice shops and such a good selection of articles, especially that cheap. And when I say cheap, I mean super cheap: Paul Smith’s tee shirts for 2£ each, Lacoste’s sweatshirt for about the same price etc…And don’t forget, all the proceed goes to charity, so don’t be shy!

nottingham castle view

If Nottingham rings a bell, that’s probably because, like me, you used to watch the adventures of Robin Hood on television when you were kid, no? If so, don’t forget to pay a visit to the castle. The ticket cost 8£ but allows for a free return…and I personally used my return on the same day to catch a different light. The view from up there is really lovely and offers a beautiful perspective over the Park, a very fancy and lovely neighbourhood of Nottingham. There is also a small museum and a guided tour of the caves that I save up for my next visit!

The oldest pub in the UK

I know, I know, it’s probably the tenth time already that you visited the oldest pub of England, am I right? Ye Olde Trip to Jerusalem is said to be the oldest pub of the country, established in 1189 AD.  Who knows, right? It’s worth seeing it, don’t you think? Ok, if you still need to be convinced, I should tell you that the pub does look really pretty and that it’s located right by the castle, so no excuse not to visit it!

The park Nottingham

Ok, this one might be a bit tricky but if like me, you are lucky enough to plan a trip to Nottingham while it’s snowing, I am sure you won’t regret your visit. Covered of it’s beautiful layer of white snow, the city was absolutely gorgeous. I would definitely recommend to pay a visit to the Park which was incredibly beautiful.

Mercure Hotel Nottingham

Once again, I had the privilege to organise my stay in partnership with Mercure Hotels. It’s my fourth stay with the group and it honestly keeps getting better and better. Each property has its own identity and Nottingham was definitely very different from Bristol, Oxford or Banbury. I can’t say which one would be my favourite so far but Nottingham definitely goes directly into the top 3!

The room was HUGE, one of the biggest, if not the biggest, room I have ever stayed in. Located in the 5th floor of the building, the suite was composed of a beautiful entrance, a living area which connects by a secret door (I loved that detail!) to a big bedroom leading to an en-suite bathroom.

Very modern with a touch of burlesque atmosphere, the George Suite is a treat that I would easily get used to!
